Antonio Maria Bernacchi (1685–1756) was one of the leading castratos of the early 18th century. All the great composers, including George Frideric Handel but also many lesser-known composers, wrote music for him. Countertenor Terry Wey has chosen the loveliest of these arias and duets and recorded them with one of Austria’s finest baroque and opera ensembles, the Bach Consort Wien under Rubén Dubrovsky, together with countertenor Valer Sabadus and mezzo-soprano Vivica Genaux. Besides three well-known Handel arias the recording specially features seven world première recordings of lesser-known composers such as Pietro Torri (1650–1737), Domenico Sarros (1679–1744), Johann Adolf Hasse (1699–1783), Carlo Francesco Pollarolo (1653–1723) and Leonardo Vinci (1690–1730).
